Pretentious bean

Borjo coffeehouse

Along our journey we run into a lot of things. Some coffee shops exceed our expections and come up with such unique drinks and fun atmospheres, we are constantly on our toes. Then, of course some places are a huge disappoint and you honestly wonder how they even stay in business. Most places fall somewhere in between. As was the case with Borjo.

Pretentious is the best word, sums up this place perfectly. The decor, the crowd, the staff. The place was fancy, which I do appreciate and enjoy, it seemed a little over the top for a coffeehouse and sometimes places are so fancy that you dont even feel welcome, esp with kids. But it was a cool, pretty, different atmosphere. Momma bean loves blown glass so the special glass lights earned extra points from me. think it would be great to study or for a date.

The staff was rude. Even made a stupid joke at our expense, totally embarrassed us. Everyone in there had a dirty look on their face. The drink selection sucked. What we got tasted bad. You can count on honest reviews from us, not everyplace is good. They did have a nice little area with books and a fireplace which was cool. They also had beer. What we did get was some cute pictures, so enjoy, after your bean score…

Super bean

Crossroads is a wonderful coffee shop, with two locations in Richmond. They have great coffee and yummy food. They have a lot of vegan friendly options. Their vegan chocolate chip cookies are to die for! Its a cool place inside, colorful, lots of seating and lots of board games to play. They have a big outdoor seating patio area as well.

It was here that I was introduced to something truly life changing for coffee lovers. Drum roll please…

“Thai coffee” Have ya’ll heard of this??? Its black coffee AND espresso with sweetened condensed milk. It is just the right blend of everything. Such a good and different flavor. Not to sweet, not to bitter. Very, very powerful. It is definetly one of my new favorites!

Baby beans were asleep in the car, so momma bean just ran in for a drink and a few pictures.

It was clearly very popular because it was crowded and they have two locations in Richmond.

We went to the 26 N. Morris street location by the way.

Uplifting bean

What a cool place! Lift coffee shop really does lift your mood. The atmosphere, the tranquil colors, the comfy pillow seating. It is a breath of fresh air. A very different coffee shop in a very good way. The staff was friendly. The coffee was nothing to rave about unfortunately. We would like to go back and try a flavored drink, because we both got non sweetened lattes. Overall good experience. We will definitely be back. Nothing special for the kiddos, but it would make a perfect place for a date or moms day out.

Jumping bean

Today we went to THE BEST coffee shop for parents! Its the most brilliant idea for a coffee shop. The cute name matches its cute and quirky style. Im talking about a lovely place called, “Cartwheels and coffee.” While the parents sit back and relax the kids can play on an assortment of toys. There is a kitchen, a stage with costumes, trains, basketball, ride on toys, a trampoline, rock wall and slide and more. The owner is the pastor of the church next door, the Byrd theatre. He is a very nice and genuine guy. The staff is always very friendly, bubbly, and quick with anything you need. There is a minimal fee for kids and you can play all day. All and all, its a wonderful place in a fun location on Cary st. So be sure to check it out if you are in the area. Lets cartwheel our way onto the scores…

(By the way this was the blog for 5/7 but my phone was acting up and it wouldnt post so this is yesterday’s blog, you can look foward to another one coming later today)
